Wimbledon
The story of the tournament so far has been the rain. It has rained almost every day and has created a huge backlog that will see the players play non stop till the end of the tournament now. Rafael Nadal pulled out a 5 set victory over Sweden’s Robin Soderling that took 5 days to play because of rain interruptions.
The men are just moving into the quarter finals now, while the women are deciding who is to play in the semis. Justine Henin defeated American rival Serena Williams to advance to the semi finals. Henin is the reigning Wimbledon champion and is looking like a good bet to retain that championship. However Serena’s sister Venus is have a comeback tournament. Seeded 23 she convincingly beat Maria Sharapova and the very next morning defeated Svetlana Kuznetsova the 2004 US open champion.
Toronto Grand Prix
The Champ Car World Series comes to Toronto this weekend. This is always a great event in Toronto and it’s more then just racing. There will be boxing bouts, mixed martial arts, acrobatic performers, and a half pipe for bikers and boarders. Meanwhile the Champ Car race will be at 1pm on Sunday. Currently Sebatien Bourdais and rookie Robert Doornbos are tied at the top of the standings with 145 points. Doornbos won the previous race in Mont Tremblant by 3 seconds over Bourdais. This should be another great battle if they can keep their cars on the track and stay out of trouble.
