NFL Football Picks, Sports Handicapping, College Football Picks and More!

In the past I’ve been involved in office pools making weekly football picks against the spread and usually finished somewhere in the middle of the pack. Following all the stats and player changes each week takes up a lot of time so most people end up betting on their favorite team or just flip a coin.

Sharkhandicapping.com offers sports handicapping services from professional handicappers. The handicappers know everything there is to know about a particular game, whether you are making football picks or college football picks, and present that information to you so you can make an educated decision. Injuries and player changes drastically affect the outcome of football games, but unless you enjoy reading all the newspapers and watching all the TV shows you probably won’t be able to keep up with whether or not a player is going to play.

With Sharkhandicapping.com you can let the handicapper worry about it. A good handicapper should be on top of the status of all the key players and present that information to you well before the game starts. If you are looking for an advantage in your sports pools checkout Sharkhandicapping.com handicapping services for a better chance at winning and making the proper educated choice.

Spicy Thai Pumpkin Soup Recipe

October means it’s pumpkin season and seeing how Monday was Thanksgiving in Canada I tried to make a spicy Thai pumpkin soup that I had tried in a restaurant in Toronto.

I read a lot of recipes and in the end made my own recipe taking a little from here and there. I was very pleased with it. Not too spicy and full of autumn flavour.

A couple of things I would change is use fresh pumpkin and add one chili pepper.

Spicy Thai Pumpkin Soup

Ingredients

  • 500ml Lite Coconut Milk
  • 500ml Vegetable Broth – I used a broth cube in 500ml of water
  • 1 can of Pumpkin – Do NOT use the pie filler pumpkin
  • 1 Teaspoon of Red Curry Paste
  • 2 Green Onions – Diced
  • Lime Zest
  • Juice of a Lime

Spicy Thai Pumpkin Soup Recipe

Instructions

  1. Bring the coconut milk and broth up to boil and then add all the ingredients.
  2. Use a hand blender to pure it all and serve.

It’s pretty simple. Give it a try this fall while the pumpkins are in season, you won’t regret it.

New Guitar Tab Site – tTabs.com

A post that we’ve written called Top 10 Guitar Campfire Songs has been wildly popular resulting in a ton of traffic for us. However it is obvious from the amount of time spent on the post that the readers were looking for something more then just a list. They wanted the music. Well now they will be able to take that list and find the songs on tTABS.com.

I’ve been to many other tab sites and my biggest complaint about most of them is speed and difficulty in finding the group or song I’m looking for. tTABS.com is extremely well organized with a huge library of guitar tabs, drum tabs, and bass tabs. Many of the songs have numerous versions from different authors so you can choose which version suits you best. The most impressive thing is how quickly you can find the song you are looking for. Many other tab sites are filled with popup ads, misdirections, and slow page loading. Not tTABS.com.

I searched for Plain White Ts by clicking on the letter P. All the bands starting with P loaded instantly, and I mean all the bands. It wasn’t paginated forcing you to click through page after page of unwanted bands. I scrolled to Plain White Ts, clicked on it and found a few versions of Hey There Delilah.
tTabs.com is by far my tab site of choice from now on. If you’re looking for tabs this is the site to go to. You won’t be disappointed.

Proline Week 5 NFL Football Picks and Odds

Just when you think you’ve got all the teams figured out Cleveland goes and destroys Baltimore in the first half. I went 2-4 last week bringing my season total to 7-11.

For week 5 of the NFL I am picking:

Houston Texans to win by 4pts. Houston gets to face the lowly Miami Dolphins this week. Home field advantage and Matt Schaub is enough to give Houston the nod in this one. Odds 1.50

Tennessee Titans to win by 4pts. The Titans have had a good year so far and are coming off a bye week to face the Atlanta Falcons. The Titans have home field advantage, 2 weeks to prepare, and Vince Young. Take the Titans. Odds 1.30

Dallas Cowboys to win by 8pts. Dallas passed the Bears test 2 weeks ago with flying colours and destroyed the ST. Louis Rams last week. The Buffalo Bills, even with Edwards playing well at QB, aren’t talented enough to compete with the Cowboys. This will be an easy game for the Boys. Odds 1.40

Arizona Cardinals to win by 4pts. The Cardinals have shown some real promise with veteran Kurt Warner at QB. The St. Louis Rams, who haven’t won a game, are without their starting QB, are likely going 0-5 to start the season. Odds 1.80

Green Bay Packers to win by 4pts. Green Bay is at home this week and Brett Favre has shown why he is considered one of the all time great quarterbacks this season. Favre passed Dan Marino for throwing the most career touchdowns in the NFL. The Chigaco Bears have injuries on defence and they are still trying to find a QB who won’t turnover the ball. Odds 1.80

Baltimore Ravens to win by 4pts. The Ravens will be on the road this week to face the San Fransisco 49ers. The 49ers will be without their starting QB again and really haven’t proven to be a team that can compete week in and week out. Last week Steve McNair passed for over 300 yards in a losing cause. Look for him to do the same this week except get the win. Odds 1.90

This week’s payout based on a $2 bet is: $2 x (1.5×1.3×1.4×1.8×1.8×1.9) = $33.60

NHL Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey Season Home Opener

The NHL started for the majority of teams last night and as usual the Toronto Maple Leafs lost their home opener to the Ottawa Senators. Danny Heatly, a.k.a. Leaf Killer, scored the tying and winning goal last night to win 4-3 in overtime.

The Leafs salvaged a point out of the game by going to overtime, but they gave up the lead two separate times during the game thanks to the poor play of Toronto’s net minder Andrew Raycroft. Raycroft fooled his coaches by having a slightly better preseason then newly acquired Vesa Toskala. Toskala was picked up in the offseason and given a 3 year contract, which most figured would make him the number one goalie. However Toskala had a terrible preseason including being in net for all 7 goals in a 7-2 to the Detroit Redwings.

Toronto and Ottawa finish their home and home series tonight with Toskala in net tonight. I suspect that Vesa will show why he was given the 3 year contract and firmly place himself in the number one goaltending position.

Aside from the poor goaltending the Leafs played some decent hockey. They got 2 goals from Nik Antropov with Sundin assisting on both, and one goal from Matt Stajan. Most of the lines looked pretty good together and for the most part the team seemed to cover their defensive assignments well, which is a change from Leaf teams of the past. A standout on defence was Andy Wozniewski who has battled injuries the last two years, but now looks health and fast for a big defenseman. If the Leafs can stay out of the penalty box and cut their goals against this year they will be a shoe in for the playoffs.

As a Leaf fan all I can do is hope and believe. Ohh, and to make me feel better I’ve included a picture of Trish Stratus in a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey!

Whiskey Sour – The Perfect Drink

A couple of years ago I attended a Johnnie Walker scotch tasting event. I must give the Johnnie Walker people props for that event. Two free drink tickets, a full roast beef dinner, and five samples of single malt scotch for free.

The event was hosted by the blend master, a true Scotchman, who had plenty of jokes about the English. He walked us through each of the five scotches, telling us what we should be tasting and smelling. I quickly learned that not all scotch tastes the same and that I didn’t like peaty or smokey tasting scotches. My favourite of the night was Cardhu. Not being able to buy Cardhu anymore I have grown to love Dalwhinnie. Dalwhinnie is fairly pricey and not something the average person would drink on a night out.

If you happen to be in the company of some scotch drinkers and haven’t quite acquired the taste of scotch, but still want to fit in here’s what you do. Order a Whiskey Sour. The lime cordial will add a little sweetness to it and take the “edge” off of the scotch. Let the ice melt a little to dilute the drink and you’ll fit right in with the scotch crowd in no time.

Here’s how you make it at home…according to me:

  1. 2oz of cheap scotch – I like to use Ballantines
  2. .5 oz of lime cordial
  3. 2 ice cubes – I like my drinks cold

Enjoy!

Create Your Own International League of Team Golf (ILTG)

Given this past weekends exciting President’s Cup tournament in Montreal I thought it wouldn’t it be great to see that kind of team golf format every week. The players are pumped and help support their team members. There is a totally different and refreshing strategy when playing team golf. And the crowds are much more supportive of the home team of golfers rather then just the one or two guys leading a normal tournament.

So here’s what I would do if I had enough money to just throw around. I would create the International League of Team Golf or ILTG. Given that tournaments would only be played Thursday to Sunday there is no reason why this couldn’t be an international league. Teams would consist of 12 players from no specific country. Each team would have a uniform and would have a “home” course. Approximately half the season would be home tournaments and half the season away tournaments. There could be an East and West Conference with 12 teams in each conference, possibly 2 divisions of 6 teams in each conference and the top 8 teams in each conference would make the playoffs. The finals would be between the East and West conference winners for the ILTG Champions Cup.

The benefits of this league would be:

  • Team Golf is a more exciting format
  • It would give golfers who aren’t in the PGA or EPGA a chance to make a living at golf
  • Individual golfers don’t have to be as good as Tiger Woods for this league to be successful. The teams just have to be competitive.
  • It would truly be an international league showing both North American style courses and traditional links courses.
  • Fans would have a team to follow and cheer for rather then just one individual

Of course there would be some sort of collective bargaining agreement between the owners and players. There would be trades and free agents. I think it would be a very exciting league to watch and attract many more viewers that normally wouldn’t watch a golf tournament.

Let me know what you think?

Story Telling Sunday – New Beginnings

Reggie decided these hunters appeared to be the kind of guys that would shoot first and ask questions later, so he covered up the fire and chased after the stranger. He caught up to him just before the lake and said “come with me. I have a canoe just up the stream. We can double back on them.” The stranger paused for a second not knowing if he should trust Reggie, but he really didn’t have a choice. Reggie led the stranger to the canoe quietly and they both paddled up the stream to a connecting lake. They had only made a few strokes when they heard the hunters yelling about a campfire. The hunters had already found Reggie’s shelter and it won’t be long before they find the tracks to the stream. However they won’t know that Reggie has a canoe and that should give them a little bit of breathing space. Reggie and the stranger didn’t say a word. Reggie figured they would canoe in the dark to the end of this lake before making camp and asking any questions.

Chapter 2

General Dixon was his name, at least that’s what they used to call him in the Army. Dixon was dishonourably discharged for conduct not fitting of an officer after 25 years of service. Without any family or friends and no real assets of any kind Dixon found himself out on the streets. But it wasn’t long before a tall thin man named Cressman walked up to Dixon and said “General Dixon I have an offer for you.” Dixon replied “I’m not a general anymore. I’m nothing. But wait…how did you know I was a general?” “My employers are looking for a man with your experience, skills, and leadership. If you want to be a general again and get paid for it, please come with me” said Cressman. Dixon was intrigued, but knew this man was not from the Army and was concerned Cressman could be from some terrorist group. As much as Dixon’s country had abandoned him he was not about to abandon his country. He stared at the tall man. Cressman impatiently asked “Well what will it be General Dixon?”

Should Dixon:

  1. Go with Cressman to find out what all this is about
  2. Stay where he is and report this suspicious man to the police

Proline Week 4 NFL Football Picks and Odds

Week 3 was a better week for me. I called the tie correct even though I picked the wrong team to win by 3 in the Vikings game and I called the Jets to win by 4, but it was only a 3pt difference. So I went 3-3 bringing my season total to 5-7.

For week 4 of the NFL I am picking:

Baltimore Ravens to win by 4pts. Simply put defence wins games. Even though the Cleveland Browns seemed to be improved this year they are not good enough to beat the Ravens. Odds 1.80

Chicago Bears to win by 4pts. For the same reason the Ravens are going to win. Now that Grossman is on the bench maybe Chicago’s offence will come to life and that makes it very hard on a Detroit Lions team that got spanked in week 3. Odds 1.90

Dallas Cowboys to win by 4pts. Dallas passed the Bears test last week with flying colours. This week should be no different with the ST. Louis Rams. This will be a cake walk at home. Odds 1.20

New York Jets to win by 4pts. The Jets are facing another division rival in the Buffalo Bills. The Bills are the sad sack team of the league this year and based on last week the Jets should take this one. Odds 1.80

San Diego Chargers to win by 4pts. The Chargers can’t continue to lose can they? Look for LaDainian Tomlinson to have a break out week against the Kansas City Chiefs. Odds 1.25

Indianapolis Colts to win by 4pts. The Colts are once again off to a flying start looking for that elusive undefeated season. Denver could be tricky, but I don’t expect it to be too much trouble for Manning and the boys. Odds 1.25

This week’s payout based on a $2 bet is: $2 x (1.8×1.9×1.2×1.8×1.25×1.25) = $23.08
